                         The
American art historian Bernard Berenson describes in
his diary Pellegrinaggi d'arte (1947-1955) his travel
experiences in Italy at the end of the 19th century.
He covered in the most pitiable circumstances real pilgrimages
to satisfy his desire to absorb the artworks, to feel
them in his body, to comprise them.
                        Driven
by the prospect to a "magnifico incontro"
with a work of art he travelled to the most distant
villages in Le Marche and other area's in Italy. "Once
arrived at the altarpiece, at the original location
for which it was intended, where one can admire it in
the sometimes cold en sometimes warm light of the half-dark
church, surrounded by the atmosphere of a sanctuary,
thére I enjoyed it intensely (…)",
                          narrates Berenson.

This is exactly the way in which we want to travel in
Central Italy, not in the most pitiable circumstances
of course, but like an art-pilgrimage through known
and unknown area's. Led by art historian Phaedra de
Zeeuw who preceded you and who is doing research in
                          the area since many years.
