Typical
for the most southern province of Le Marche are the many palm trees,
that grow in rows along the boulevards at the Adriatic coast. For
example at San Benedetto del Tronto, one of the biggest ports of
Italy, and the Medieval village Grottamare
that rises up on top of a hill over the sea.
The
capital Ascoli is a lovely city, with an impressive Medieval Piazza
del Popolo in the historic centre. A city with it's own atmospere,
rich in monuments, archeological sites, museums and churches. The
antique rivalry between Ascoli and Fermo provided both cities with
splendid buildings and towers, comparible with the campanilismo
between Siena and Florence.
